About

Welcome to Black Graduation Celebration at the University of Toronto the main goal is to highlight interdisciplinary Black excellence across undergraduate, master’s, and PhD graduates.

We will be hosting a night of celebration for the Class of 2017 ( convocation in either June and November) including keynote speakers (TBA) and awards. This is an evening to celebrate black excellence on campus with friends and family.

This event will include students from all three campuses Scarborough, St. George and Mississauga. If you are black identified student graduating in 2017 this event is for you.

This event is presented by students at the University of Toronto with the support of University of Toronto Administration.

Black Graduation will be happening June 22nd 2017 at Hart House.

Food will be provided!

You can order your tickets here via Eventbrite.

As a graduating student you can invite 2-3 family or friends to the event. Please make sure they fill out the Eventbrite.

Tickets are FREE and you can bring family members and friends!! Registration begins May 12th.

Transportation subsidies will be provided for all three campuses, if you need a parking pass or TTC covered please let us know.

Award Nominations

Do you have a friend graduating in the Class of 2017? 

Nominate them for an award that will be presented at Black Graduation Celebration June 22nd.

Award for Excellency in Research
Feel free to nominate a student who has demonstrated exceptional academic and intellectual achievement through cutting edge research in a particular field of study.
The Leonard Braithwaite Award for Excellence in Leadership
Feel free to nominate a student who has demonstrated exceptional leadership within the U of T community and has made ground-breaking changes that have impacted the U of T black community positively.
The Dionne Brand Award for Excellence in the Liberal Arts
Feel free to nominate a student who has displayed exemplary achievement in the liberal arts i.e. literature, social sciences, etc.
Community Service Award
Feel free to nominate a student who has provided an unparalleled commitment to public service. This student must have dedicated time and energy to initiatives that have made positive contributions to individuals and/or organizations. Include their name and a 100-word response explaining their contribution to the community, and indicating why they are deserving of this award.
Award for Outstanding Athletic Achievement
Feel free to nominate a student who demonstrates leadership and excellence in athletics; a student who is involved with athletics either on or off campus. Athletic achievement is not limited to organized sports – it may include any achievement that involves physical health promotion. Include their name and a 100-word response explaining the activity they are involved with, and indicating why they are deserving of this award.
